Radio Big Bear Scanner
The live streaming scanner is a Uniden 996T digital trunking scanner. It is connected to a Scantenna mounted approx 20 feet off of the roof. The antenna feedline is Belden 9913 coaxial cable. The scanner audio is streamed using a dedicated 3.0Ghz PC running Microsoft Windows XP. The software used to stream The Big Bear Scanner is run by Craig Lindstrom who has been a scanner enthusiast since 1980. The site was started in 2002 and back then could only support 15 listeners. The site has grown over the years and a paid service is now used to stream the scanner to up to 1000 simultaneous listeners. The scanner hit an all time record during the fires in October 2007 when it hit 750 concurrent listeners.the audio is Windows Media Encoder 9 and Shoutcast Streamer. The Scanner is on a UPS which is capable of running for 12 hours without city power. The Streaming computer can operate for approximately 20 minutes without city power.
